Never Use Car Products On a Solar Panels
Car waxes, “ceramic/nano” sprays, and auto-glass products are NOT engineered for PV modules. Using them can permanently reduce power.
- Different glass: Solar panels use low-iron tempered glass with permanent anti-reflective (AR) layers to maximize photon transmission. Automotive glass is built for impact safety, not light throughput—very different surface chemistry.
- Coating clash: Car products (made for paint & metals) often contain silicones/solvents/resins. These can fog or etch AR layers, and increase reflectance, blocking the light solar cells need to produce electricity.
- Output & warranty risk: Abrasives and harsh pH cleaners can micro-scratch glass, lock in soiling, lower efficiency, and may void manufacturer guidance.
